Delivered by Fairey Aviation (Stockport) between 9Jun44 and 19Jul44. NA563 was one of two 640 Sqdn Halifaxes lost on this operation. See: LW654. Airborne 2056 10Aug44 from Leconfield to bomb the railway junction. Cause of loss not established. Crashed at Gouloux (Nievre), 5 km NE of Montsauche. All were buried locally by the Maquis. Their graves are now located in Nantes (Pont-du-Cens) Communal Cemetery. P/O Hellegers was a Belgian whose parents, Clement and Jane Hellegers, lived at Lanaken.
