"Serial Range ND324 - NE181 Thgis aircraft was one of 600 Lancaster Mk.111s ordered from A.V.Roe (Chadderton) and delivered from Dec43 to May44 with Merlin 38 engines. ND559 was delivered to 32MU Jan44 and allocated to No.156 Sqdn 15Feb44. ND559 took part in the following key Operations: Leipzig 19/20Feb44; Stuttgart 1/2Mar44; Nuremburg 30/31Mar44; D_sseldorf 22/23Apr44; Duisburg 21/22May44-Lost. When lost this aircraft had a total of 85 hours. ND559 was one of two No.156 Sqdn Lancasters lost on this operation. See: JB217 Airborne 2244 21May44 from Upwood. Exploded in mid-air, throwing clear F/S Ward, following a night-fighter attack. Debris fell near Molenaarsgraaf (Zuid-Holland) some 14 km NE of Dordrecht.
