"Serial range ED303 - EE202 This aircraft was one of 620 Lancasters ordered from A.V.Roe (Chadderton) in 1941 and built from Nov42 to Jun43 as 129 Mk.1s and 491 Mk.111s, mixed up to ED782 and all as Mk.111s from ED783 onwards. The Mk.1s were initially fitted with Merlin 20 and the Mk.111s with Merlin 28 engines. ED998 was a Mk.111 and was delivered to No.467 Sqdn 31May43. Took part in the following Key Operations: D_sseldorf 11/12Jun43; Cologne 3/4Jul43; Turin 12/13Jul43; Hamburg 24/25Jul43; Hamburg 2/3Aug43; Milan 15/16Aug43-flown by the Squadron CO.- Lost. When lost this aircraft had a total of 94 hours. Airborne 2034 15Aug43 from Bottesford. Outbound, over France was attacked by a night-fighter and exploded, crashing near Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), where those killed were first buried. They have been subsequently re-interred in St.Desir War Cemetery, W/C Gomm, Sqdron CO, whose parents lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was on the 24th operation of his second tour, his first tour having been with 77 Sqdn. He had also flown Beaufighters on operations with 604 Sqdn.
